The loquat tree (Eriobotrya japonica) is a dense, evergreen shrub or short tree with the following characteristics:
Size
Loquat trees can grow to be 20–30 ft (6–9 m) tall, but are often seen at 15 ft tall with a 15–25 ft spread.
Leaves
Loquat trees have thick, stiff, elliptical leaves that are 8–10 in long with coarsely toothed margins. The upper surface of the leaves is dark green and glossy, while the lower surface is whitish to rusty-tomentose. \
Flowers
Loquat trees produce small, fragrant, white flowers in dense clusters in the fall.
Fruit
Loquat trees produce round, oval, or pear-shaped fruits that are 1–3 in long and yellow to bronze in color. The fruit has a tough skin and juicy whitish to orange-colored flesh with three or four large seeds. \
Soil
Loquat trees prefer well-draining loamy soil with a pH between 6.0 and 8.0.
Pollination
Loquat trees are pollinated by various insects, including bees, syrphids, houseflies, and more.
