Senecio vitalis, also known as Senecio cylindricus or Bush Blue Pickle, is a succulent plant with striking blue-green foliage that’s native to the eastern Cape of South Africa. Appearance
This plant has long, narrow, upright-growing leaves that resemble fingers. It can grow up to 18 inches tall and 4 feet wide.
Growing conditions
Senecio vitalis grows best in full sun or part shade, in well-drained, sandy, dry to medium moisture soil. It’s a winter grower and summer dormant, and requires ample air flow.
Uses
Senecio vitalis is a great choice for rock gardens, succulent gardens, or Mediterranean gardens. It can also be used as ground cover under palms or in pots with other plants.
Toxicity
While Senecio vitalis is not toxic to humans, it contains compounds that are toxic to dogs.
Care
When buying a Senecio vitalis, it’s a good idea to repot it into a fresh pot and soil within a month of receiving it.
